New Visual kei unit Zeke Deux, formed by Scarlet Valse’s frontman Kakeru and the Reveude’s guitarist Haruka, released the demo tape Zero on November 24, 2021.

A first listen to the sound of Zeke Deux was given through the “Zero” music video, featuring a melodic heavy base with a powerful rhythm infused with symphonic elements and fast guitar work. The elegant military aesthetics reinforce their concept of “a revolutionary army”.

Despite being a unit, Zeke Deux is not a 2-piece band. Guitarist Satsuki, bassist Jr. / bassist Maya, and drummer Loa will be joining Kakeru and Haruka on stage as “project members”. Zeke Deux debuted live on November 11 at Ebisu club aim in Tokyo.

Regardless of living in a digital era, Zeke Deux decided to make an interesting move by releasing a cassette tape instead of a regular CD. The tape contains the tracks “Zero” and “Phantom Pain”. This can be purchased at Starwave Records online shop.

With the recent announcements of the upcoming disbandment of the Reveude and Scarlet Valse pausing activities indefinitely next year, Kakeru and Haruka have stated that those events are not related to the formation of Zeke Deux.

As “two zeros that head to a future full of possibilities”, the joint project is gearing up to record new songs and add more concerts in hopes to inspire others to keep moving forward through music.

La nueva unidad visual kei Zeke Deux, compuesta por Kakeru (vocalista de Scarlet Valse) y Haruka (guitarrista de the Reveude), ha lanzado su cinta demo Zero el 24 de noviembre de 2021.

Zeke Deux ofreció un adelanto de su sonido a través del video musical de “Zero”, presentando una base melódica pesada con un potente ritmo fusionado con elementos sinfónicos y guitarras rápidas. La elegante estética militar refuerza su concepto de «ejército revolucionario».

Pese a ser una unidad, Zeke Deux no es una banda de dos miembros. El guitarrista Satsuki, el bajista Jr. / bajista Maya, y el baterista Loa se unirán a Kakeru y Haruka en el escenario como «miembros de proyecto». Zeke Deux debutó en vivo el 11 de noviembre en el club Ebisu aim en Tokio.

Zeke Deux decidió hacer un movimiento interesante al sacar una cinta de casete en lugar del típico CD, sin importar el peso de la era digital en la que vivimos. Esta cinta contiene los temas “Zero” y “Phantom Pain”, la cual puede adquirirse en la tienda online de Starwave Records.

Kakeru, vocalista de Scarlet Valse, tiene un mensaje que desea transmitir al mundo desde su posición como músico. Esta entrevista será dividida en tres partes. En esta primera fracción, Kakeru nos da una apasionada charla acerca de “ser músico”.

Hemos creado esta oportunidad para que puedas dar ese mensaje que, como músico, quieres expresar tan fervientemente en este momento.

Kakeru: Muchas gracias. Debido al desastre ocasionado por el COVID-19, nuestras opciones como músicos se han reducido y al mismo tiempo nos hemos visto forzados a buscar otras alternativas. Actualmente en Scarlet Valse, nos la pasamos pensando “pese a la pandemia ¿qué es lo que podemos hacer?”, con esa convicción y mentalidad es que hemos estado intentando diferentes actividades. Pasa lo mismo con otros músicos. Lo primero que quiero expresar es “nosotros, como músicos, no dejaremos que algo como el coronavirus pare nuestras actividades. No nos daremos por vencidos”.

Hoy en día, mucha gente tiene opiniones encontradas respecto a la realización de eventos musicales. Pero para nosotros los músicos, es nuestra profesión y vivimos de ello; por esa razón no nos rendiremos ante el juicio de otros. Y quiero pedirles a otros compañeros músicos que tampoco se dejen derrotar.

¿Tienes conocidos que hayan dejado sus actividades musicales a causa del coronavirus?

Kakeru: Hay gente que ha reducido sus actividades y hay personas que las han dejado por completo. También hay otros, como los políticos o medios de comunicación, que solo hablan sin entender la condición en la que nos encontramos. Sin embargo, seguramente debe haber algún tipo de música que les agrade y se sientan animados por esta. Creo que no hay ninguna persona que no haya sido influenciada positivamente por la música de alguna banda o idol que les guste. El poder de la música brinda alivio en los momentos difíciles. Esa es la razón por la cual pienso que no debemos cesar nuestras actividades.

Por el momento, tal vez nuestro poder de brindar aliento y consuelo como Scarlet Valse sea pequeño. No obstante, me gustaría hacer de su conocimiento a todos aquellos que estén leyendo esta entrevista que, a través de nuestra música y acciones, queremos incitarlos a “no rendirse”.

Kakeru, tú sigues trabajando de diversas formas.

Kakeru: Ciertamente, estoy trabajando de la manera que ha probado funcionar hasta el momento y sigo buscando nuevas opciones para llevar a cabo mis actividades musicales con Scarlet Valse e individuales. Hay muchas personas que quieren ir a conciertos, pero no les es posible por diversos motivos; de modo que los músicos estamos ideando formas de poder llegar a ellos y brindarles ánimo a distancia. Quiero seguir así, ya que existe gente que se alegra tras sentirse conectados con nosotros a través de las transmisiones en línea, aunque no sea un concierto como tal.

Kakeru, ya llevas varios años realizando transmisiones por medio de TwitCasting. Esa es una de las tantas formas en la que te mantienes conectado con el público.

Kakeru: Así es. Al principio estaban enfocadas a darnos a conocer, pero después de la gira por las 47 prefecturas japonesas, quise seguir conectado con la gente que nos vio por primera vez y se volvieron fans. Aunque fuese solo a través de voz, busqué estar en contacto con ellos. Tras la declaración de emergencia en Japón el año pasado, tomé conciencia otra vez de la importancia de “estar conectado con otros” y ahora cambié el formato de la transmisión para crear una atmósfera de “intimidad en un bar”.

¿A qué te refieres con “intimidad en un bar”?

Kakeru: Desde hace mucho uso una guitarra para componer. Pero en las transmisiones que realizo en TwitCasting, puedes encontrarte con un Kakeru que toca la guitarra acústica mientras canta. A veces tomo complacencias y hablo respecto a diversos temas. En ese tipo de atmósfera es que realizo mis directos actualmente. Para serte franco, todavía no domino la guitarra acústica, por lo que es común que tenga errores. Sin embargo, quiero mostrar mi yo real, incluyendo mis fallas. Si la gente ve lo mucho que me estoy esforzando, ellos también se motivarán a dar lo mejor de sí. De esta manera, he tenido transmisiones por más de 1200 días y contando.

Kakeru, tienes la firme convicción de no parar actividades pase lo que pase.

Kakeru: Vivo como músico y si paro actividades entonces dejaría de ser un músico. Se trata de continuar, no de cesar. Incluso si no es en la forma de conciertos.

Con la declaración del estado de emergencia el año pasado, de repente vino a mi memoria el gran terremoto de Japón en 2011 y la situación en la que tampoco era posible realizar conciertos. En aquel entonces, los negocios se vieron restringidos, por lo que los espectáculos fueron cancelados uno tras otro. Pese a ello, hubo algunos recintos que siguieron funcionando aún en tales condiciones. Varios lugares operaron usando solo la electricidad meramente necesaria debido a los problemas con la energía eléctrica. Mucha gente buscó refugio en la música para aliviar su angustia generada por este desastre. Me di cuenta de que con tan solo tener un lugar donde actuar, incluso con una luz tenue y un sonido muy rudimentario, podía cantar para todos aquellos que “buscaran olvidar su ansiedad”. Todavía creo que es lo correcto. Cuando ese sentimiento volvió a mí, entendí que “sin importar las circunstancias, no debo parar mis actividades”. Así que he continuado con la mentalidad de “hacer lo que se pueda hacer, aunque no sean presentaciones en vivo”. 

Ya que vives de ser un artista, no queda más que preguntarse “bueno, ¿qué es lo que puedo hacer?”

Kakeru: Estás en lo cierto. Hay bandas que se retiran porque no logran atraer personas o entran en problemas financieros, entendemos muy bien esa situación porque la hemos vivido. No obstante, el dinero no es nuestro objetivo. Lo que nos mantiene vivos es la música, ¿qué pasa con personas como nosotros si dejan la música? Somos músicos, pero no tenemos que hacer únicamente conciertos. Mientras haya gente que disfrute lo que sea que estemos haciendo, ¿acaso eso no es rock? Ese es el motivo por el cual me mantengo activo y realizo transmisiones a diario para poder decirle a la gente “Yo estoy bien, ¿cómo están ustedes?”.

En la segunda parte, Kakeru nos habla de “la situación actual de las presentaciones en vivo de Scarlet Valse”.

Scarlet Valse resumió pronto sus conciertos presenciales tras el levantamiento del estado de emergencia en Japón del año pasado, ¿cierto?

Kakeru: Tan pronto como se declaró que ya era posible realizar conciertos presenciales, Scarlet Valse inmediatamente quiso retomarlos; sin importar todos los lineamientos necesarios con tal de poder llevarlos a cabo. De manera individual, también regresé a trabajar con Kakeru JAPAN (mi banda de sesión).

Es una situación complicada, porque no puedes tener el mismo ambiente ni atraer el mismo número de asistentes como solía ser antes de la pandemia, ¿no es así? 

Kakeru: Es un hecho. Antes de la pandemia solíamos tener 10 conciertos al mes y además hacíamos giras por todo el país, lo cual ya no es posible. En este año, solo tuve 4 conciertos con Scarlet Valse y 1 con Kakeru JAPAN. A partir de marzo, tenemos planeado realizar 7-8 conciertos al mes, por lo que estaríamos regresando al mismo ritmo que teníamos antes del COVID-19. Claro está que tendremos que adaptarnos a las circunstancias del momento. Dado que nuestra gira por las 47 prefecturas japonesas se tuvo que interrumpir el año pasado, realmente nos gustaría poder reprogramarla. Como un primer paso, estaremos yendo solo a las ciudades grandes. Para abril tenemos agendado un tour en conjunto con la banda de Nagoya NETH PRIERE CAIN (perteneciente a la disquera Double River Record).

Honestamente, estamos conscientes que será complicado obtener ganancias, porque todos los recintos del país están operando a una capacidad reducida. Nos ganamos la vida como músicos, por lo tanto, también es importante para nosotros obtener un ingreso. Pese a esto, le estamos dando prioridad a nuestros sentimientos. Si existe tan solo una o un par de personas que quieran ver a Scarlet Valse en algún lugar, queremos hacer todo lo posible por ir allá. Nos gustaría que todas aquellas personas que conocemos cuando estamos de gira por las 47 prefecturas de Japón se alegren porque “Scarlet Valse es una banda que viene a nuestra ciudad”. Por el momento es difícil ir a todas las 47 prefecturas, pero haremos nuestro mejor esfuerzo para ir a cada una cuando la situación lo permita.

En este año, Scarlet Valse ha estado retomando su ritmo habitual de actividades.

Kakeru: Estamos haciendo todo lo posible. Aunque con el estado de emergencia dictado este año, las salas de concierto únicamente tienen permitido operar hasta las 20:00 hrs y, dependiendo de las circunstancias recientes, también se implementan nuevos lineamientos. Esto ha hecho que tengamos que realizar anuncios y cambios de último momento frecuentemente. Aun con esto, seguiremos trabajando para poder restablecer la industria. Tengo fe en que así será.

Así que lo más importante es no dejar de trabajar.

Kakeru: Para nosotros como músicos, así es. Si hablamos de conciertos presenciales, lo cierto es que no todos pueden asistir; pero todos pueden disfrutar de los lanzamientos. Desde el año pasado, Scarlet Valse ha estado realizando música constantemente, aunque solo han sido lanzamientos limitados a la tienda online y no han tenido distribución en tiendas. Además de eso, también tenemos las transmisiones. Lo importante es como usamos todas estas herramientas a nuestro favor.

Aunque los directos vía TwitCasting, lanzamientos, presentaciones online y las recientes grabaciones de conciertos subidos a ciertas plataformas ya se han vuelto algo cotidiano, tener estas actividades constantemente sin duda brinda un poco de alegría a todos aquellos que buscan un poco de sosiego en su vida diaria.

Kakeru: Ante todo, no quiero que la gente se sienta sola. El número de eventos ha ido en descenso, por lo que es comprensible que las actividades en vivo sean escasas. Pero si no tomamos ningún tipo de iniciativa, tampoco obtendremos algo. Al ponernos en acción, también inspiramos a otros a hacerlo. Nuestra disquera Starwave Records también piensa de esa manera. La disquera es muy proactiva y nos hace propuestas, de la misma manera escucha con atención la opinión de nosotros como banda y así establecemos un plan. Si ninguna de las partes plantea algo, entonces no se puede avanzar. Me parece que ese es el reto al que los músicos deben enfrentarse.

En esta tercera parte, Kakeru expresa sus pensamientos respecto “al futuro de Scarlet Valse” a aquellos que no se están rindiendo.

Scarlet Valse ha estado lanzando presentaciones pregrabadas, disponibles solo por 24 horas cada viernes a las 20hrs (JST). Y además han estado probando otro tipo de dinámicas, ¿cierto?

Kakeru: En efecto, así lo hemos estado haciendo. Estos videos disponibles solo por 24 horas surgieron ante la cancelación de nuestro concierto oneman después de la declaración de estado de emergencia. Ya que muchas personas esperaban verlo y el personal del lugar implementa rigurosamente todas las medidas sanitarias necesarias; se decidió realizarlo no como un concierto en streaming, sino como una grabación sin asistentes y liberarlo gratuitamente de manera periódica. Iniciamos este tipo de entrega como una nueva forma de comunicarnos y de estar en contacto con los fans. Scarlet Valse seguirá estando al día con las tendencias y probando nuevas alternativas.

Kakeru, tal como lo has expresado una y otra vez, “no pararás”.

Kakeru: Efectivamente, ni Scarlet Valse ni yo tenemos intenciones de parar. No puedo imaginarme ser músico sin tener algún tipo de actividad relacionada con la música. En este momento, me es imposible verme sin hacer algún tipo de expresión musical. Ante todo, quiero continuar como músico. Si dejo de serlo, dejaría de ser yo mismo…

Sigues en búsqueda de nuevas opciones de lo que se puede hacer bajo estas circunstancias y has puesto las manos a la obra.

Kakeru: Ciertamente. Sé bien que las salas de concierto lo están pasando mal, así que también he pensado en cómo poder ayudarles porque, personalmente, he recibido mucha ayuda de estas, especialmente del dueño de una en Kashiwa. De mi parte, sigo programando eventos esperando que sea un poco de ayuda para reactivar estos lugares. 

En cuanto a los conciertos en línea, difundo los enlaces con mis conocidos de las salas de concierto y compañeros de otras bandas para que así también puedan verlos. En el caso de Scarlet Valse, realizamos tanto transmisiones gratuitas como de pago. No queremos que los fans se sientan solos cuando no podemos tener presentaciones con asistentes, de manera que nos estamos esforzando mucho con este tipo de actividades para animar a aquellos que nos ven a la distancia.

El festival del onceavo aniversario de la disquera Starwave Records, Starwave Fest Vol.23, se llevó a cabo el 18 de febrero con asistentes y también tuvo distribución online.

Kakeru: El Starwave Fest nunca se había trasmitido de manera online, así que 70. de XANVALA y yo le pedimos al director de la disquera hacer una transmisión en vivo. Por este motivo, se optó por realizarlo en el Takadanobaba CLUB PHASE, ya que cuenta con un sistema de streaming muy estable. Aunque en esta ocasión fue una emisión de paga, poder tener un mayor alcance a través del streaming es muy beneficioso para la promoción de todas las bandas afiliadas al sello.

Estoy esperando con ansias lo que Scarlet Valse hará de ahora en adelante.

Kakeru: Más que reanudar la gira de las 47 prefecturas japonesas, interrumpida por el coronavirus, realmente queremos poder realizarla otra vez desde el principio. Pero aún más importante, nos gustaría poder llevar a cabo nuestra presentación en el TSUTAYA O-WEST, la cual también se vio pospuesta. Todavía no podemos anunciar una fecha en concreto, pero tenemos una ferviente ambición de hacer ambos. Esperamos poder darles buenas noticias poco a poco en un futuro no muy lejano.

Sin embargo, la tranquilidad y seguridad de los asistentes es nuestra máxima prioridad. Asimismo, tenemos que examinar las condiciones de los recintos. Se debe tomar en consideración todos estos detalles y el tener que irse adaptando constantemente a las nuevas condiciones dificulta todo, así que no podemos prometer nada. Pero sin duda, Scarlet Valse seguirá trabajando para poder darle vitalidad al público. Cuando la situación lo permita, me gustaría poder tener una reunión con mis compañeros de otras bandas y demás personal involucrado para simplemente poder reírnos todos. También sería increíble viajar a Hakone y poder charlar casualmente con los fans en las aguas termales. Aún no sé cuando podrá hacerse realidad, pero amigos, se los haré saber en cuanto sea posible (risas).

Here is the message that Scarlet Valse’s vocalist, Kakeru, wants to convey to the world as a vocalist. It’ll come in three parts. In the first one, he talks with passion about “being a musician”. 

Since you strongly want to convey your feelings as a musician, we’ve created this opportunity. 

Kakeru:  Thank you. Since the coronavirus crisis started, we, musicians, have to make various choices, and each of us comes up with various answers and try to deal with it. 

Scarlet Valse tried some stuff, based on this thought and this will: “Is there nothing we can do due to the coronavirus outbreak?”. It’s the same for all musicians. First of all, I want to say “Since we’re musicians, we won’t stop our musical activities even if there’s the coronavirus outbreak, we won’t quit”.

These days, there are many people who talk about the fact of carrying musical activities. But as musicians, we chose to live on music, as a profession. So I want to say that we can’t lose to the world’s opinion and I hope our musician friends won’t either. 

There are some people close to you who quitted their musical activities due to the coronavirus crisis… 

Kakeru:  Some people temporarily paused, some quitted too. There are also some people who are gossiping without understanding well the current situation we’re in, such as politicians, mass media or people in general. But I’m sure they’ve been encouraged by some music they really like. I think that everyone who is living in this current situation, and who used to like bands or idols, is kept alive by music in a way. I actually feel it! As expected, the strength of music is to give some relief to people’s anxiety. That’s why I think “we mustn’t stop our musical activities”.

Maybe the peace of mind and the strength that Scarlet Valse’s music can provide is small. But through this interview, I want to tell you that through Scarlet Valse’s music and behaviour, we want to convey the idea of “not losing”.

You’re personally delivering stuff in various ways. 

Kakeru: Whether it is what I’m used to doing or what I’m still fumbling around for, I’m continuing to deliver music through Scarlet Valse, of course, but also through my personal activities. Even now, there are many people who would like to go to lives but can’t due to various reasons. Musicians can give some encouragement to these people by their other ways, even if they can’t meet. If some people can feel the relief of staying connected with us by chatting via a broadcast, even if it’s not a concert, then I want to do it.

For the last few years, you’ve been doing Twitcast without interruption, is it also a way to keep in touch with your fans? 

Kakeru: Yes. At first, I just wanted to make us known, but since we started our 47 prefectures tour more particularly, I wanted to feel connected with the people who came to see us for the first time and liked us. So I ended up wanting to continue to feel that link between each of us, just by “talking”. When the state of emergency was declared last year, I felt once again how it is important to stay “connected”. I continued to provide online contents with the atmosphere of “intimacy in an izakaya”.

What do you mean by “intimacy in an izakaya”?

Kakeru: I’m used to playing the guitar to compose since long. After passing through the curtain of that place called TwitCasting, you can see Kakeru holding an acoustic guitar and singing various songs there. Sometimes I meet the requests and talk about several topics. I weaved such a place and that how are my broadcasts now. Honestly, I’m still practicing the acoustic guitar, so sometimes I make some mistakes. But since I’m showing my real self and doing my best, I hope that everyone will work hard too. Thanks to all that, I’m having TwitCastings for over 1200 days.

You didn’t want to stop your activities no matter what. 

Kakeru: We exist as musicians, so if we stop, we’re no longer musicians. So it’s natural to continue rather than stopping. Even if we don’t perform on stage. 

When they declared the state of emergency last year, it reminded me of the concerts situation at the time of the Great East Japan earthquake [TN: in 2011]. At that time, the stores had to refrain from staying open, and the musicians cancelled their shows one after another. Of course, even under such circumstances, there were live houses that didn’t stop their activities. Weren’t there some places that were doing their business while reducing to the utmost their electric power consumption, due to the electric power issues? And just like now, in such a situation where distress dominates, there were people who were searching for help in music. At that time, I became aware that if I could provide just a place to perform, I could sing for “people who want to get rid of their anxiety”, even in a small faint light and with a natural sound without amps. I think that I had the right way of thinking back then. That feeling is back now, and it led us to think “we can’t stop our music activities no matter what”, “It’s okay if we can’t perform now. We should just do what we can under such circumstances.” 

Living as an artist is all about “Well, what can I do?”

Kakeru: Yes. For sure, we’ve also experienced situations when he had to shrink our activities for financial reasons, or because we weren’t attracting enough fans, so we understand that situation. But our goal is not money. Music is what keeps us alive. What happens if a musician stops making music? We’re musicians, but it’s fine even if we don’t make music. If people are pleased with the way we carry our activities, isn’t that rock anyway? That’s why I’m doing TwitCastings day after day, showing my face and asking people “I’m fine, how are you doing?” 

In this second part, he talks about “the current concert situation in which Scarlet Valse is”. 

After the state of emergency was lifted last year, Scarlet Valse quickly resumed their gigs in live houses, right?

Kakeru: When we saw that it was becoming okay to perform at live houses with an audience, Scarlet Valse thought “We’ll have a live right away”, no matter what would be the conditions, As Kakeru JAPAN (my own session band), I immediately started to move forward. 

Even now, the environment is not the same as before the coronavirus outbreak, and it’s difficult to perform, isn’t it? 

Kakeru:  Right. We still haven’t reached the point of being able to tour every region of the country and have around ten gigs per month, like before. For the concerts scheduled for this year’s February, I’ll perform four times as Scarlet Valse and once for Kakeru JAPAN. But from March onward, Scarlet Valse will perform around 7-8 times a month, so we will return to the same pace as before the outbreak. Of course, since we had to stop it last year, I want to resume the “47 prefectures tour”. As a preliminary step, we will actively go to the countryside. From April, we are going to as many places as possible for our C/W TOUR [TN: C/W stands for “coupled with”] with NETH PRIERE CAIN, who belongs to Nagoya’s label Double River Record. (As of February 8th, 2021)

To be honest, I’m prepared to face difficulties in terms of earnings, since there are still restrictions all over the country regarding the number of people that can enter live houses. “Our profession is to be musicians” so it’s important to earn enough to simply live. But aren’t feelings our priority after all? So even if there are only one or two people somewhere saying “I want to see a gig of Scarlet Valse”, we want to do our best to go there. Especially if the people we met in several places through our “47 prefectures tour” are pleased and think “Scarlet Valse is a band that comes to see us”. Going to the 47 prefectures is currently difficult due to the circumstances, but we plan to go to as many places as possible. 

Scarlet Valse is going back to normal activities this year. 

Kakeru: Yes, as much as possible. But with the state of emergency that has been declared at the beginning of this year again, the live houses can be opened until 20:00 only, and it also depends on how it moves in the world, so we might have to take some other measures too. That’s why we do announcements at the last moment, and even so there are many sudden changes. But we want to restore the concerts environment as much as possible, that’s why we’ll stay active. We’ll continue to believe in it. 

The most important is not to stop your activities. 

Kakeru: It is. But not everyone can come to the concerts. But if it’s songs release, then everyone can enjoy it. Since last year, Scarlet Valse released stuff mainly in the form of mail order instead of store distribution, but we continued producing music constantly. Moreover, the new way to distribute music, that weapon called “broadcast”, has increased. The important thing is how to effectively use all that!

TwitCasting, digital songs, online lives, uploading videos of concerts you recently performed, these might be something common now. But if there are people who feel relieved that you continue to post contents, for sure it means that these people find some little enjoyment in their daily lives, right?

Kakeru: After all, I don’t want to make people feel lonely. Right now, the number of events is decreasing, so I understand that live activities are slowing down. But if we don’t continue to have broadcasts, we won’t even be able to speak to our fans. If we move forward, they’ll be inspired by us and move forward too. The label we belong to, Starwave Records, think like us. If they make some proactive propositions, they also listen to the opinions of our band and put them into practice. If both parties don’t share their thoughts, nothing will move. I think it’s time for the musicians to challenge themselves.

At the moment, Scarlet Valse upload a “24h-limited live video” every Friday at 20:00. You’re trying several other things, aren’t you?

Kakeru: Yes. Regarding the “24h-limited live video”, the one-man concert originally scheduled had to be cancelled due to the declaration of the state of emergency. But there were many people who were looking forward to it and wanted to see us. Since the staff of the venue had taken proper measures against the spread of the infection and were ready for the concert, we performed not in the form of a live streaming, but we recorded the concert held with no audience and aired it for free on a regular basis for all the people who were looking for it. 

I started to think that this method would be a new way of communication to be connected to various people. Scarlet Valse will continue to take on new challenges while keeping with the time changing. 

You said it many times, but you “can’t stop”.

Kakeru: Indeed. Neither Scarlet Valse nor I intend to stop. It’s unthinkable for a musician to stop his musical activities. I can’t imagine expressing myself without music. Above all, I want to stay a musician. If I drop this title, then I’m no longer myself… 

You, as Kakeru, are also trying to search what you can do under such a situation, and you’re continuing to practice.

Kakeru: Yes. Of course, I know that some live houses are still in trouble. Personally, Kashiwa’s live house totally helped me, so I wonder what I could do for them… Thinking about that, I planned an event there with my solo project. It’s not much, but I hope I’m helping bands and businesses with this stimulation.

For the online concerts, I share with the staff of various live houses I’m indebted to and with our bandmen friends a private URL so that they can watch the gig too. Every time they tell us “You gave me motivation” after watching it, it gives us energy too. In our case, we have some free streamings, as we mentioned at the beginning, and also some paid broadcasts. So that people don’t feel lonely when we don’t have concerts or when they can’t come, we plan to put all our strength into broadcasts so that the people who watch us get some encouragement.

The「Starwave Fest Vol.23～event for the label’s 11th anniversary～」to be held on February 18th will be a concert with audience, but will also be broadcasted, won’t it? 

Kakeru: Since the “Starwave Fest” has never been broadcasted, 70. from XANVALA and I asked the representative and we got that this time it’ll also be broadcasted. Moreover, we decided to choose Takadanobaba CLUB PHASE because it’s a place with a good streaming system. Even though it’s a paid broadcast this time, since it’s a festival, it’ll be a great way for all bands to make them more known.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Scarlet Valse will go on in the future. 

Kakeru:  Now, I’m strongly thinking about not continuing our “47 prefectures tour” that we stopped last year due to the coronavirus crisis, but to redo it from the beginning. In addition, we’ll make real our one-man at TSUTAYA O-WEST that we had to cancel too. We can’t announce a concrete schedule yet for both of them, but I hope that we’ll be able to make a happy announcement to everyone in a little while. 

However, the safety and the peace of mind of our audience must be our priority. It’s the same for live houses. It’s difficult to coordinate everything, because we need to take everything into consideration, we don’t know how the situation will change, it depends on how the world moves, so at the moment it’s difficult to make you a promise. Anyway, Scarlet Valse will continue to challenge themselves to make everyone “live with energy”. And I also want to bring smiles to my fellow band members and to the staff working with us. If we can do it someday, I’d also like to casually talk with all our fans while going on a trip to Hakone’s hot springs. I still don’t know how soon it’ll be, but when circumstances will allow it, I’ll immediately get in touch with you all (laughs).

The songs from “Valkyrie” were performed for the first time during their one-man concert at Ebisu club aim on October 15th. Transforming themselves from angels to demons, Scarlet Valse will release a new single titled “Inferno” on April 15th.

After the release of their already sold out single “Heaven”, Scarlet Valse changed drastically their concept to present this new work.  “Inferno” will contain 3 songs plus a DVD with live footage recorded on the final date of their past 47 Japanese prefectures tour at Takadanobaba AREA in 2019.

Scarlet Valse has been touring non-stop all over Japan since last year. The band recently embarked on a tour with 29 dates in 17 cities. The “Creation of Myth” tour started in December and it will end on May 14th at Tsutaya O-West.
